Medicinal Cannabis is strictly regulated by the TGA in Australia. It is very complex to navigate the eligibility criteria and the government websites can be difficult to understand.
Medicinal cannabis is considered an ‘unapproved’ medicine by the TGA, and doctors have to apply for special permission from the TGA to prescribe it in certain cases under a Special Access Scheme – or they must undertake training and gain the status of Authorised Prescriber. The TGA states the need for larger, quality studies to further refine eligibility criteria for medicinal cannabis use.
In many cases, medicinal cannabis is prescribed after other medications have been proven to be ineffective. To help you to understand whether or not you are eligible, we have created a simple and easy-to-use Eligibility Tool that will provide you with clarification before you book your first appointment.
During your first appointment, our highly trained doctors will run through a thorough examination of your conditions and medical history in order to make a clinical decision about your suitability for medicinal cannabis usage.
